The story of Alton Cars

Our story starts over 40 years ago... Strap in.

1979
Alan Stephenson & Tony Parish establish the business under the railway arches off Saxton Lane in Leeds, combining their first names to call it ‘Alton’ Cars.
1985
Alton Cars buys land in front of their existing location in order to build their first purpose built Bodyshop on Saxton Lane.  This was quickly followed by the second unit being built on the same site.
1998
Julian Milner joins the business as Finance Director.  Julian later went on to hold the title of Managing Director.
1999
Alton Cars buys Minster Coachworks in York – an established bodyshop which became the 2nd site in Group.
2004
Alton Cars buys an existing bodyshop in Knaresborough (Near Harrogate) calling it Knaresborough Body Repairs.
2007
Alton Cars buys RC Jones (Motor Bodies) in Barnsley.
2007
Neilson Jones Joins the company, having owned RC Jones – Neilson went on to hold the role of Commercial Director for the Group.
2008
Huddersfield Accident Repairs is acquired by Alton Cars, bringing the group to 5 sites.
2011
All sites are re-branded to reflect the Alton Cars Name.  i.e. Huddersfield Accident Repairs became Alton Cars Huddersfield Ltd.
2013
Alton Cars Hull is established from scratch from an empty unit.
2014
Doncaster Site established.
2016
Ashbourne site established.
2016
High Peak site established.
2016
Alton Cars acquires the Mansfield site (formally JD Bodyworks).
2017
Amalgamation of all separate limited companies into one single Limited Company – Alton Cars Ltd.
2017
Rotherham site established.
2017
Sheffield site established.
2018
Nottingham site established.
2019
Keighley site established.
2021
Julian Milner (Managing Director) & Neilson Jones (Commercial Director) lead a management buyout to purchase 100% shares in the business.
